We are thrilled to announce that CalypsoAI takes 2nd in hackathon with Australia and New Zealand’s defence forces.

CalypsoAI staff participated in a joint hackathon to identify opportunities to strengthen Australia and New Zealand’s response to natural disasters (including wildfires and earthquakes). The CalypsoAI team included members from Australian special forces, ethical hackers, and hardware specialists.

The team identified critical challenges in damage assessment and rapidly designed and prototyped a working solution over the weekend. The CalypsoAI team took 2nd place overall.

From the official materials on the event, known as #ANZDFhack, “the 48-hour online event helped identify innovative solutions to supply chain issues, which underpin Defence’s ability to mobilize quickly when responding to a crisis or threat.

Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said the hackathon will leverage the ingenuity of technological specialists across the two Nations to enhance sovereign capability.

“The strength of the Australia-New Zealand relationship is more important than ever, and now is the optimum time to build networks and find self-reliant capability solutions with our close partner and friend across the Tasman,” Minister Reynolds said.

The hackathon generated executable submissions including prototypes, applications and algorithms. Software developers, innovation specialists, 3D experts and prototype development specialists will be invited to engage with each other and Defence.

The event was coordinated by the Australian Defence Force, and was executed by the Australian Computer Society.
